For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
2 Corinthians 4:17
Devotional Message
For a moment, try to see your current sufferings from God’s eternal perspective rather than from your human view. When you observe your reality through the vast lens of God, you begin to notice how small your current troubles are from His point of view. For you, it may feel like everything—the crushing weight of the pain feels unbearable, the doubt feels large, and the unknown feels overwhelming. Yet from God’s perspective, your troubles are light and momentary compared to the eternal glory they will produce. For without this current experience, and everything you learn during it, what comes next in God’s plan would not make sense, for it is through this season He is building your character in order to confidently step into the next phase of your life.
When you reflect back on every challenge in your life, at the time, it felt like it was the biggest mountain in front of you, one that you feared to climb or questioned your ability to conquer. But when we truly look back, we see that all of those moments were simply moments—temporary experiences that led us to this one. Proving that suffering has a deeper purpose—it is the process that facilitates inner transformation that then creates the vessel poised to achieve greatness and eternal glory. While pain is temporary, the bliss, abundance, and peace that comes after is far greater—for your troubles are actively achieving something eternal, a lasting and heavenly reward that you will carry with you forever.
So how does one shift from a temporal perspective to an eternal one during trials? We view things from God’s perspective. We remember that His plan is far greater than ours. We trust that He turns everything, even suffering, into good. We maintain faith that everything He allows us to experience is coming from a place of unconditional love. We trust that what feels heavy now is actually light in God’s eternal view, for the suffering we experience has an eternal purpose—to transform us, to transform the world, and to achieve for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, help me see my current troubles through Your eternal perspective, so that I can trust that the suffering I’m experiencing at this moment is achieving eternal glory. Give me strength to remember that my troubles are temporary and light, and while it does feel heavy, teach me how to deepen my faith that what I’m going through has a deeper purpose beyond just me. As I experience my day today, show me the ways in which You plan to use my current pain for eternal gain. Thank you for allowing me to walk through this storm, as I know it is what will lead to the eternal glory You have promised me. Help me remember that these light and momentary troubles are achieving for me an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. Amen.
