Your Daily Devotional 12/11/2025: The Beautiful Simplicity of What God Wants

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

Devotional Message

After centuries of religious rituals and complex rules, God cuts through the noise to tell us what He actually wants: justice, mercy, and humility. “He has shown you what is good”—there’s no mystery here, no hidden formula. These three requirements reveal God’s heart and show us that relationship with Him has always been about character transformation, not religious performance, being perfect or following a set of rules.

“Act justly” means standing up for what’s right even when it’s costly, treating people fairly regardless of their position or power, advocating for those who can’t advocate for themselves, accepting that you were wrong even when you don’t want to admit it. Justice sees people’s dignity as non-negotiable. But justice alone can become harsh without mercy.

“Love mercy” balances justice with compassion. While justice gives people what they deserve, mercy extends grace beyond what’s deserved. Mercy remembers that we’ve all needed second chances, that we’ve all fallen short, that we all make mistakes. It chooses forgiveness over bitterness, restoration over punishment, compassion over condemnation. But mercy without justice can enable harm.

This is why both must flow from “walk humbly with your God.” Humility keeps us grounded in the reality that we need God at every moment—that we have no righteousness apart from Him. Walking humbly means staying in close relationship with God, constantly checking our hearts against His, asking Him to shape our perspectives. It means acknowledging that we don’t have all the answers, that we’re capable of self-deception without His guidance, and that we must lean on him throughout it all.

What’s beautiful about this verse is its simplicity. We often complicate faith with endless requirements, but all God says is to treat people right, extend compassion, and stay close to Me. When that becomes our measuring stick, we come to find that embodying Christ’s energy is available to us all.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, help me live out what You truly require. Teach me to act justly in my relationships and work, to love mercy by extending the grace You’ve shown me, and to walk humbly with You in constant dependence. When I’m tempted toward religious performance, remind me that You want my heart fully surrendered to Yours. Amen.
