A Short Prayer To Ask God To Turn Pain Into Purpose

When my hands feel empty, your hands are still building.

Dear God, grow something good out of everything I’ve lost.

Because loss has a way of hollowing out the places in our hearts that we once filled with joy, with purpose, with certainty. It leaves quiet corners where familiar hope used to live, and in those corners it can feel like nothing is left behind but the ache, the wound. But even in the emptiness, even in the dark, you are still present, God. You are still working.

Loss changes us, but it removes what is temporary in our lives and reveals what is lasting. It reminds us how fragile life can be, but it also shows us just how faithful you are, God. When my hands feel empty, your hands are still building. When all I see is what slipped away, you see what can root and grow in its place. Nothing I have lost is wasted in your eyes; you breathe purpose into the broken pieces I don’t know how to carry yet.

So take the darkened parts of my story and plant something new in their soil, God. Plant something rooted in grace, something strengthened by hope, something watered by your goodness. Let what once hurt become the very ground where healing begins. Let what ended make room for something better aligned, better timed, and more deeply rooted in you.

You are the God who turns endings into beginnings. The God who turns grief into growth. Even when I can’t see the full picture, help me to trust that new life is already taking shape. Maybe slowly. Maybe quietly. But still faithfully. Still gracefully.

Grow peace where fear once lived. Grow hope where hurt tried to settle. Grow love in the spaces loss carved out. And when the pain rises again, remind me that you are still tending to the garden of my heart, God. Remind me that you are still restoring, still renewing, still pulling good out of what I thought was gone.

Amen.
