Your Daily Devotional 3/4/2026: Blessed Is the Person Who Trusts God

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Devotional Message

Jeremiah contrasts two ways of living, and this is the blessed path: “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” Blessed doesn’t necessarily mean comfortable or easy, but it does mean flourishing, experiencing wholeness, living from deep security regardless of external circumstances. “Trusts in the Lord” and “confidence is in him” emphasize the same reality—your security, your hope, your expectations are anchored in God rather than in yourself, other people, or favorable circumstances.

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream” describes what this trust produces. Trees planted by water don’t panic during drought because their roots reach the stream that never runs dry. They’re not dependent on surface conditions—rain or shine, their deep roots access constant supply. When you trust in the Lord, you’re like that tree: not dependent on circumstances being favorable but drawing from Source that sustains you regardless of what’s happening around you.

The verse continues: “It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” This is what trust produces—not absence of difficulty (heat comes, drought happens) but sustained life through difficulty. Your leaves stay green when others are withering because your roots go deep to the stream. You bear fruit in drought years when others are barren because your source isn’t seasonal rain but constant river. The contemplative invitation is to send your roots deep into God through trust, accessing supply that doesn’t depend on surface conditions.

Let’s Pray

Lord, I want to be blessed by trusting in You, sending my roots deep to access what sustains me regardless of circumstances. When heat comes and drought threatens, help me draw from the stream that never runs dry. May my trust in You produce fruit even in difficult seasons because I’m rooted in constant supply rather than dependent on favorable conditions. Amen.
