That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

The counterintuitive truth about life is that we can always find strength in moments of weakness. There is a deeper and more divine purpose behind each challenge we face, for the way we emerge from trials proves how we serve and honor Jesus. No matter what difficulties come our way, we have a choice—not just to endure them, but to actually delight in them, knowing they reveal God’s power through us.
There are many different challenges we face through each season of life, but God always uses each as a force for good: weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties. All of those things, while seemingly detrimental, are the very forces that expand us, refine us, and ultimately strengthen us in ways comfort never could. Knowing that the transformation we receive by moving through those challenges brings immense spiritual growth, we can choose to view those experiences with a completely different perspective.
When we find joy in suffering for Christ’s sake, we allow His light to be revealed through our darkness—where God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness and ultimately displayed through us to the world. This doesn’t mean that we need to love the actual pain itself, but rather to experience the delight that comes from knowing these trials are producing something eternally beautiful within us.
Rather than seeing our weaknesses as failures, we can choose to view them as divine opportunities. The next time we face a setback, a hardship, a trigger, or an insult, rather than closing our hearts and believing that we are weak or failing, we can choose to see it as an opportunity for growth, for healing, for displaying God’s love. This completely shifts our perspective on trials and limitations, as everything we experience then becomes a meaningful part of our spiritual journey. That is the profound paradox of Christian strength—that when we are weak, then we are strong, because God’s power rests upon us in our most vulnerable moments.
