A Prayer For When You Need God To Remind You That Better Is Still Coming

There are seasons that can make you afraid to hope too far ahead. After enough disappointment, expecting less can start to feel safer than believing again. But God is not limited by what this chapter has looked like so far. There are still people you haven’t met, places you haven’t been, prayers you haven’t watched become answers, and versions of your life you haven’t lived yet. Better is still allowed to find you.

God,

There are days when I can believe for everyone else but myself. I can look at someone else’s life and trust that you’ll come through for them. But when it comes to my own prayers, it’s harder. The longer I wait, the easier it becomes to wonder if this is simply how things will always be.

I don’t want disappointment to become the loudest voice in my life. I don’t want to mistake silence for your absence or convince myself that a season of waiting is the same as a lifetime of waiting.

Lift my eyes beyond what I can see today. Remind me that you have never asked me to place my hope in my circumstances. You have asked me to place it in you. Help me believe that you are still writing a story I cannot fully see yet. Give me the grace to keep showing up with an open heart, even when I don’t have the answers. And when my faith feels small, be faithful enough for both of us.

Thank you, God. Show me that my future is not being written by my fear, my disappointment, or my doubts. It is being held by you.

Amen.
