Jesus wept.
John 11:35
Jesus is our ultimate model that strength and vulnerability can coexist. He is living proof that we are allowed to be perfectly human alongside perfectly divine. This understanding shows how Jesus’s sacred tears validate our own emotions and experiences of grief—they are not signs of weakness but evidence of deep love and divine compassion. God understands our pain intimately because He has felt it Himself—He chose to enter into our suffering with us.
Each time an emotion surfaces, we must allow ourselves to fully feel the depths of it. When we face loss, heartbreak, frustration—it’s okay to cry, to grieve, to release the emotions stirring within us. However, when we feel our emotions, we must do so through faithful grieving rather than faithless despair. We must allow ourselves to not only express our innermost feelings, but do so in a way that deepens our trust in God’s sovereign plan.
Emotional expression becomes sacred communion with our Creator—an essential part of healthy spiritual life. It is proof that we are here, experiencing this human life to its fullest potential. Each time we feel any emotion, we validate the simple fact that we are living according to God’s beautiful design for humanity.
When we discover that this capacity for deep feeling was intentionally woven into our souls and that our Savior also carried the weight of human emotion, we give ourselves permission to not only be fully human, but also receive God’s tender compassion through our shared suffering. Love naturally leads to sorrow when we experience loss, but that sacred sorrow also opens our hearts to receive the deepest love from our Father.
