But now the Lord who created you, O Israel, says: Don’t be afraid, for I have ransomed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.
Isaiah 43:1
Devotional Message
God’s personal nature in His relationship with us is that He is ever-present through all trials and tribulations; therefore, He is not only our creator but also our redeemer. His intentional design for each of us—that which He created and formed—holds mysteries beyond our grasp, yet everything about us—our childhood, our family dynamics, our gifts, the relationships we have, our upbringings, and our experiences—were all made with pure, intentional, divine design. Not only did He create us, but He formed our very existence in a way that allows each of us to freely follow the plan He has for our lives.
What makes Isaiah 43:1 so powerful is the intimate way God addresses His people: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’ To be redeemed means that we will always be rescued from captivity—no matter how far we traverse away from Him, He will always protect and guide us back into safety. There is something profoundly moving about God knowing us by name—not as anonymous faces in a crowd, but as individuals He recognizes, calls, and claims.
This divine ownership provides security and identity, knowing that we come from the very source that is the image of love. And if that is our source, where His authority is both as creator and redeemer, we can trust that wherever we are in our lives, we are securely protected, loved, and nurtured. When we focus on this connection, of God holding us closely in His arms, we immediately find freedom from all fear. For if the Creator is carrying us, what is there to ever be afraid of?
If we ever feel exiled or displaced, unsure of our role in society or where we are heading, can we surrender to the mere fact that He has already saved us and redeemed us? ‘You are mine,’ God declares—three simple words that establish our ultimate belonging. In a world where identity is often tied to achievement, appearance, or acceptance, God offers an unshakable identity: we belong to Him. We are His. And in that divine claiming, we find who we truly are—beings made from love and light.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, thank you for being my creator and my redeemer. Thank you that you have formed me with intentional design and summoned me by name. Knowing that I am protected and nurtured by you at all times allows me to feel more at peace and at ease in this world.
But sometimes, I struggle with my identity and fear who I was, who I am, and who I am becoming. In those moments of doubt, help me hear your voice declaring, ‘You are mine,’ and help me live in the security of belonging to you. Enable me to experience your presence throughout all seasons of my life, especially the difficult ones. Rather than finding my identity in changing circumstances or by what others think of me, help me find my true self in your claim on my life. Amen.
