You Will Find God When You Seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

God’s desire is to be found, not hidden. But it is only through seeking him wholeheartedly instead of casually that we will find ourselves in his presence. When we seek him casually, we only pray when we need something, we only thank him for the big things, we only go to church on holidays, or we use his name in vain. But when we seek God wholeheartedly, he becomes the foundation of every moment in our lives.

We pray when we need, when we don’t, and when we receive. We thank him for the challenges, the blessings, the little things and the big things. We feel connected to him in the physical church and in the church of our hearts. We use his name for glory and speak of him through the lens of love. His promise is simple—he can be found. Regardless of who you are, what you’ve done, or what you have been through—God is available to all of us.

This hope that he offered to the exiles in Babylon is also the same hope we can live by today. Nothing and no one can ever prevent you from finding our Creator. It is never too late to seek him. But the barriers we put in front—our sins, our excuses about not having time, our feelings of unworthiness—prevent us from wholeheartedly seeking.

When God feels distant, you must ask yourself, ‘Who moved?’ Because the truth is, God didn’t. It was you who may have taken a step back. But no matter how far you’ve moved away from him, it only takes one step in his direction to feel his presence again. Why? Because he is always with you. And when you seek him with all your heart, you realize that he no longer needs to be found, because he’s always been right there with you.
