Your Daily Devotional 1/10/2026: Crying Out From the Depths and Finding God Near

I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit. You came near when I called you, and you said, ‘Do not fear.’

Lamentations 3:55–58

Devotional Message

Some prayers rise from places so dark you wonder if your voice can reach heaven. “I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit” acknowledges the soul’s capacity to cry out even from the lowest places, even when buried in circumstances that feel like death. The pit represents complete entrapment—darkness, isolation, the sense that escape is impossible and rescue unlikely. Yet even from these depths, the soul can still form God’s name on its lips, can still reach upward through the darkness with words of desperate hope.

The fear beneath the crying is that God might not hear, might not respond, might close His ears to your desperate voice. When you’re in the pit, when darkness surrounds and hope feels distant, the terror is that you’re crying into void, that your plea for relief falls on deaf ears or doesn’t reach far enough. This honest fear doesn’t disqualify the prayer but gives it urgency, your realization that you cannot survive without divine attention.

“You came near when I called you, and you said, ‘Do not fear’” is the turning point, the moment when everything shifts. Not “you answered eventually” or “you heard from a distance” but “you came near”—divine presence descending into the pit with you, God not calling down instructions from above but entering your darkness to stand beside you. “Do not fear” isn’t denial of circumstance but assurance of companionship, the promise that you don’t face this alone. No pit is too deep for God’s voice to hear, no darkness too profound for His presence to penetrate.

Let’s Pray

God, I call on Your name from the depths of my suffering. I trust that You hear my prayers and will provide me with relief. Remind me time and time again, “do not fear” each time my mind wants to focus on my terror. Amen.
