Your Daily Devotional 1/24/2026: Come, Let Us Return to the Lord

Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.

Hosea 6:1–2

Devotional Message

Hosea issues invitation to those who’ve wandered: “Come, let us return to the Lord.” Return implies you’ve been somewhere else, that distance has opened between you and God, that the relationship needs repair. Yet the invitation is communal—”let us” suggests you don’t return alone but alongside others who are also finding their way back. This returning isn’t groveling in shame but hopeful movement toward the One who waits to receive you.

“He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds” acknowledges that sometimes God’s discipline feels like tearing, that the process of correction can wound even as it ultimately heals. The tearing isn’t vindictive but surgical—removing what’s diseased so health can return. Yet the same hand that tears is the hand that heals, the One who wounds is the One who binds up, the discipline that feels like injury ultimately restores wholeness.

“After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence” promises resurrection after death, restoration after devastation. The “third day” echoes Christ’s resurrection—suggesting that what feels like ending is actually preparation for new beginning, that death makes space for life, that restoration comes after you’ve released what cannot be healed. The ultimate promise is presence: “that we may live in his presence.” The goal isn’t merely behavioral correction but restored relationship, the ability to dwell with God without shame or distance.

Let’s Pray

Lord, I return to You after wandering in distance. Thank You that Your discipline, though it feels like tearing, ultimately heals. Bind up the wounds that Your correction has revealed. Revive what feels dead in me and restore me on the third day. Let me live in Your presence without shame or fear. Amen.
