
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

Devotional Message
Paul prays for something beyond human capacity to achieve: that you would be strengthened with divine power in your inner being. “Out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you” suggests God’s resources are unlimited, that what strengthens your soul comes from inexhaustible supply. This strengthening happens “through his Spirit in your inner being”—the deepest part of you where Spirit meets spirit, where God’s presence touches your essence. The purpose is creating space for Christ to make His home in you—not temporary visitation but permanent residence, inhabiting your heart fully.
“Being rooted and established in love” uses organic imagery—roots that go deep, foundations that remain stable. Love isn’t emotion you generate but reality you’re planted in, soil that nourishes your growth, ground that holds you firm when storms come. This rooting happens gradually as you allow divine love to penetrate deeper layers, as Christ’s presence establishes security in places where fear and shame once dominated.
“May have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” acknowledges that divine love exceeds comprehension. Wide enough to include everyone, long enough to reach backward through all your past and forward through all your future, high enough to lift you from any pit, deep enough to dive beneath your worst failures—Christ’s love has dimensions beyond human measurement. Yet Paul prays you would have power to grasp it, suggesting spiritual capacity can expand to receive what seems impossible to contain. The contemplative path leads you to experientially know what intellectually surpasses knowledge, to be filled completely with divine fullness because you’re rooted in Love itself.
Let’s Pray
Father, strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being so Christ may dwell fully in my heart. Root and establish me in love that goes deeper than my wounds, wider than my failures, longer than my timeline, higher than my limitations. Give me power to grasp dimensions of Christ’s love that surpass my understanding. Amen.x
