This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
Devotional Message
This day—with all its imperfections, challenges and uncertainties—is divine gift intentionally made for you. Not yesterday with its regrets, not tomorrow with its anxieties, but today with its unique opportunities for love, growth and divine encounter. Your response to this gift determines whether you experience it as burden or blessing.
“The Lord has made” reminds you that today isn’t random occurrence but divine creation. God has fashioned this specific day with the same creative power that spoke worlds into existence. Even when circumstances feel chaotic or painful, divine purpose weaves through the hours you’ve been given.
“We will rejoice and be glad in it” isn’t naive optimism ignoring real difficulties but deliberate choice to find joy and gratitude regardless of conditions. This rejoicing doesn’t depend on everything going well but flows from recognizing that God’s presence makes any day sacred, and that everything is always unfolding for your highest good. You can experience gladness even while carrying legitimate sorrows.
The emphasis on “this day” calls you into present-moment awareness. So much mental energy gets consumed by replaying past failures or rehearsing future worries that you miss the life unfolding right now. When you anchor yourself in today—the only moment you actually have—you discover divine presence that’s always available in the now.
Choosing to rejoice in today is spiritual discipline that reshapes your entire orientation. Instead of waiting for circumstances to improve before experiencing joy, you decide that today—exactly as it is—is enough reason for gladness. This decision doesn’t change your circumstances, but it transforms your experience of them.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, help me receive today as the gift you’ve made for me. When I’m tempted to dwell in past regrets or future anxieties, anchor me in the present moment. May I choose rejoicing and gladness in this day, recognizing your presence and purpose woven through every hour. Amen.
