And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6
Devotional Message
Faith isn’t passive belief but active seeking—the earnest pursuit of God that demonstrates both your trust in His existence and your confidence in His responsive nature. What pleases God isn’t perfect understanding or flawless behavior but the sincere heart that continues reaching toward divine love even when the path seems unclear.
“Without faith it is impossible to please God” establishes faith as the foundation of divine relationship. God isn’t impressed by religious performance or spiritual achievement accomplished through self-effort. What delights the divine heart is simple trust—believing that God is who He says He is and will do what He’s promised.
“Believe that he exists” might seem like low bar, yet this foundational trust becomes challenged regularly by circumstances that suggest God’s absence, prayers that feel unanswered and suffering that raises questions about divine care. Faith chooses to affirm God’s reality and presence even when experience creates doubt.
“He rewards those who earnestly seek him” promises divine response to genuine pursuit. This isn’t transactional relationship where you perform and God pays out—it’s assurance that sincere seeking never goes unanswered. The “reward” isn’t always what you expected but always includes deeper experience of God Himself, which surpasses any specific answer to prayer.
“Earnestly seek” suggests wholehearted devotion rather than casual interest. This seeking involves your full attention, consistent effort and genuine desire—not perfect execution but authentic engagement. God responds not to your flawless faith but to your sincere pursuit, meeting you in the seeking itself.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, strengthen my faith to believe in your existence and trust in your rewards. Help me seek you earnestly, not perfectly, knowing that sincere pursuit pleases you. When doubt arises, anchor me in trust. When answers delay, sustain my seeking. May my faith be active pursuit of your presence. Amen.
