To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27
Devotional Message
Paul reveals what he calls a mystery—something hidden for ages but now made known: “The glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you.” For centuries, people thought access to God required temple rituals, priestly mediation, perfect adherence to law. The mystery now revealed is staggering in its simplicity: Christ Himself dwells in you. Not visiting occasionally when you pray well or behave correctly, but residing permanently, making His home in your interior life. This indwelling is the “glorious riches”—not external blessings or material wealth but the incomparable treasure of divine presence within you.
“Christ in you, the hope of glory” identifies this indwelling as your hope for future glory. Not hope in the sense of wishful thinking but confident expectation grounded in present reality. Because Christ dwells in you now, you carry within yourself the seed of future glorification. Glory isn’t something you’ll receive later as reward for good behavior—it’s already germinating within you through Christ’s presence, waiting to be fully revealed when what’s hidden becomes visible. Your hope isn’t based on your ability to become glorious but on Christ who already is glorious dwelling in you.
The contemplative path leads you to shift focus from trying to get closer to God externally to awakening to God’s presence internally. You don’t need to climb spiritual ladder to reach divine heights—Christ has descended to make His dwelling in your depths. You don’t need to achieve certain spiritual status to access God—He’s already accessible because He lives in you. This mystery changes everything: the glory you’re longing for is already present in seed form through Christ in you. Stop seeking what you already possess and start recognizing the treasure you carry.
Let’s Pray
Christ, thank You for dwelling in me as the hope of glory. Help me shift from trying to reach You externally to awakening to Your presence internally. When I’m striving to get closer to God, remind me You’ve already made Your home in me. Open my eyes to the glorious riches of this mystery—that You live in me. Amen.
