Devotional Message

Paul declares something that defies natural understanding: “God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” When Christ rose from the dead, you rose with Him—not metaphorically but in spiritual union so real that His resurrection becomes yours. When Christ ascended and sat down at the Father’s right hand, you were seated with Him—not physically present in heaven while simultaneously on earth, but spiritually positioned in the place of authority and rest that Christ occupies. This is past tense reality, not future hope.

“Seated with him in the heavenly realms” describes your current position, not where you’re trying to get. Seated suggests rest, completion, authority—the work is finished and you’re positioned in the place of triumph. Heavenly realms aren’t distant location you’ll reach someday but spiritual dimension you’re already inhabiting through union with Christ. You exist in two realities simultaneously: physically present on earth while spiritually seated with Christ in heavenly places. Your daily struggles happen on earthly plane, but your identity and authority are established in heavenly realm.

The contemplative work is living from your heavenly position rather than just your earthly circumstances. When you’re overwhelmed by what’s happening around you, remember where you’re seated—with Christ in heavenly realms, above the chaos, in the place of rest and authority. When you feel defeated or powerless, recall that you’re seated with the One who has all authority. You don’t need to fight your way to victory; you’re already seated in the position of triumph. Live from where you’re seated, not from where you’re struggling.

Let’s Pray

God, help me live from the reality that I’m raised and seated with Christ in heavenly realms. When earthly circumstances overwhelm me, remind me of my heavenly position—seated with Christ in rest and authority. Teach me to operate from where I’m seated rather than from where I’m struggling. I am positioned in triumph through union with Christ. Amen.
