Devotional Message

Paul declares the stunning simplicity of union: “Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.” Not partially connected or gradually approaching unity but actually one—your spirit and God’s Spirit joined in union so complete that distinction blurs without disappearing. This oneness isn’t absorption where your identity vanishes into God’s, but integration where you remain yourself yet are completely united to divine presence. One spirit, not two spirits cooperating but single unified reality.

This union is present-tense reality, not future aspiration. “Is one with him” means you’re already united, already joined, already experiencing oneness even when you don’t feel it. The union isn’t created through your spiritual practices or maintained through your perfect behavior—it exists because you’re united with the Lord, because you’ve been joined to Christ, because the Spirit dwelling in you creates this mystical oneness. Your work isn’t achieving union but awakening to union already established.

The contemplative invitation is to live from this oneness rather than striving toward it. To recognize that when you’re making decisions, the Spirit united with your spirit can guide from within. When you’re facing challenges, you’re not drawing strength from external God but from God united to your very being. When you’re pursuing holiness, you’re not trying to become someone you’re not but allowing who you already are in union with Christ to emerge. You are one with the Lord in spirit—this is mystical reality, not metaphorical aspiration. Stop trying to achieve what’s already true and start living from it.
