Your Daily Devotional 3/23/2026: Wisdom From Heaven Is Pure and Peace-Loving

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

James 3:17

Devotional Message

James contrasts earthly wisdom with heavenly wisdom: “The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure.” Pure means unmixed with selfish motives, uncorrupted by ego’s agenda, clean of manipulation or hidden purposes. Earthly wisdom often comes tangled with what benefits you, what makes you look good, what protects your interests. But wisdom from heaven starts with purity—it seeks what’s true and right regardless of how it affects you personally.”

Then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere” lists the characteristics that flow from pure wisdom. Peace-loving means it doesn’t create unnecessary conflict or stir up division. Considerate means it accounts for how decisions affect others, not just yourself. Submissive means it’s willing to yield when appropriate rather than insisting on its own way. Full of mercy means it extends grace rather than demanding justice. Good fruit means it produces positive results you can see. Impartial means it doesn’t play favorites. Sincere means it’s genuine, not performing or pretending.

The contemplative practice is examining the wisdom you’re operating from. When you make decisions, solve problems, or give advice—are you drawing from heavenly wisdom or earthly wisdom disguised as spiritual insight? Heavenly wisdom produces peace, consideration, mercy, and good fruit. If what you’re calling “wisdom” creates division, serves only your interests, refuses to yield, or produces bad fruit—it’s not from heaven regardless of how logical it sounds. Ask God for wisdom that’s pure first, then characterized by all these qualities that follow. The source determines the fruit.

Let’s Pray

God, give me wisdom from heaven that’s pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Help me recognize when I’m operating from earthly wisdom disguised as spiritual insight. When my “wisdom” creates division or serves only my interests, redirect me to wisdom that’s actually from You. Let the fruit reveal the source. Amen.
