Your Daily Devotional 3/25/2026: Those Who Sow in Tears Will Reap With Joy

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

Psalm 126:5-6

Devotional Message

The psalmist describes agricultural reality with spiritual application: “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” Sowing with tears means doing the work when it’s painful, planting seeds when you’re grieving, investing effort when you can barely see through the crying. The farmer who sows in tears doesn’t feel hopeful—he’s weeping while he works, scattering seed through blurred vision, trusting that pain and planting can coexist. Yet the promise is that tears during sowing don’t determine the harvest. You will reap with songs of joy.”

Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them” emphasizes the transformation from weeping to singing, from seed to sheaves. Going out weeping means starting the journey in grief, doing what needs to be done despite the tears. Carrying seed to sow means you’re still investing, still planting, still believing in future harvest even when present is soaked with sorrow. But returning with songs of joy and sheaves shows the reversal—what you planted in tears produces harvest you gather with celebration.

The contemplative truth is that your current tears don’t disqualify future joy or nullify the seeds you’re planting now. When you’re doing the right thing while crying, when you’re showing up even though you’re grieving, when you’re investing in what matters despite the pain—you’re sowing seed that will produce harvest. The weeping won’t last forever. You will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves from seeds you planted through tears. Don’t stop sowing just because you’re crying. The harvest is coming.

Let’s Pray

God, help me keep sowing even when I’m weeping, trusting that tears during planting don’t determine the harvest. When I’m doing what’s right while grieving, remind me that I will reap with songs of joy. Give me faith to carry seed and keep investing even through blurred vision. The harvest is coming—help me believe it. Amen.
