Devotional Message

There is a deep significance in appreciating the simple, everyday joys of life. As we move through our days, we spend most of our time and energy fixating on the past or worrying about the future, forgetting that where we are in this present moment is the only place we can experience true, utter joy. Pure bliss is not found in the past, nor in the future, but in the exact moment we are in, if we simply choose to be fully there. Despite the uncertainty of life that Ecclesiastes so often highlights, the one thing we can be certain of is that we can make this exact moment full of life, love, and happiness—by appreciating everyday blessings as divine gifts.

‘Light is sweet,’ the Bible tells us, ‘and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.’ The mere fact that we woke up today to see sunlight is a gift in itself—that we have another opportunity to go where our hearts please, to spend time with loved ones, or to do things that enliven our spirits. Despite the difficulties we may face each day, we must also embrace its pleasures—not only in the grand moments but also in the micro intricacies that make life vibrant. The taste of our morning coffee. The commute to our jobs. The dinners spent with family. The way we move our bodies. The books we read. These are all simple, ordinary moments throughout our daily existence that are sources of lightness, sweetness, and pleasure.

When we activate our senses to embrace this beauty at each moment through present-moment awareness and mindfulness, we open our hearts to receive more divine blessings. The coffee we drink is no longer just something we consume, but a source of God’s beautiful creation. The experiences we share with friends and family no longer become just moments that pass by, but are the very source of true love. The time spent exercising no longer becomes a means to an end, but rather a moment that allows us to feel the strength of our bodies and honor the vessel God gave us.

Through this lens, everything in our lives has deeper meaning—that despite life being transient, as Ecclesiastes repeatedly reminds us, we give ourselves the opportunity to savor life in all its glory. Perhaps this is God’s will for us—to truly enjoy every aspect of the one life we are given, finding sweetness in the light and pleasure in seeing the sun.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, thank you for the everyday blessings that I often take for granted. Sometimes, I tend to miss the simple joys as I’m so focused on my goals, my work, and everything I need to do, resulting in me moving through my life without stopping to appreciate the daily gifts you give to me.

Guide me into finding you, and your love, in my ordinary moments. Let me not take for granted the sweetness of light or the pleasure of seeing the sun. Help me be more mindful and present with where I am, savoring each moment as a divine gift. Thank you for blessing me with senses that allow me to experience beauty in each moment—to taste, to see, to feel, to hear the goodness you’ve placed all around me. May I find joy in the light of today, knowing that in appreciating these simple pleasures, I honor the life you’ve given me. Amen.
