Your Daily Devotional 6/23/2025: Stop Striving, Start Trusting

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would not.’

Isaiah 30:15

Devotional Message

To find strength in quietness feels counterintuitive, yet it is through the sacred pauses, moments of stillness, and periods of solitude that our deepest strengths are discovered. Many of us dismiss rest and repentance—when we steer away from God and do the wrong thing, we are afraid to turn back towards Him. When we are busy and have a lot on our plate, we deprioritize prayer and find ways to be self-sufficient. When we feel anxious, stressed, or worried, rather than investing time in stillness, we grip onto more things that make us less free. So, why is it that we prevent ourselves from receiving what God is offering us—spiritual strength?

We tend to exert too much force, believing that the more we push, strive, or do, the better things will be. But all that really does is show God how we do not trust Him. Because the less time we spend in repentance, rest, or quietness, the less time we spend with God. The more we focus on external conditions, use our hours keeping ourselves busy or running from one place to another, the harder it is for us to hear God’s voice. And it is only when we feel, hear, and communicate with God that we find true peace.

This is the real challenge we all face each day—not from our jobs, relationships, or evolving dynamics, but rather, relying solely on ourselves versus Him. As the Sovereign LORD says, ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.’ We must choose God’s way over our natural tendencies, to no longer resist the very things that would help us most. Our rest, repentance, and presence are the gifts that connect us closest to God.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, sometimes I tend to rely on myself rather than you. But I no longer can live this way, so I’m asking you to help me embrace repentance and rest. Allow me to find time for stillness, and in moments where I get anxious, help me to trust you and cultivate deeper patience.

I confess that I often choose striving over stillness, and busyness over being with you. But I trust that your way overpowers my human solutions, and that you will provide salvation through rest instead of me striving. Thank you for your patient invitation to find my strength in you. Amen.
