Your Daily Devotional 7/25/2025: Eyes on Jesus, Not the Storm

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:31

Devotional Message

The daily spiritual battle we face is the sacred dance between fear and faith. The root issue across all aspects of life is when doubt overcomes our divine faith, when we allow our human minds to overpower the holy knowing in our hearts. Even when we believe we’ve been walking faithfully—where prayers are soon to be answered, where spiritual growth occurs, where we know we are taking the right steps in fulfilling God’s calling—the moment we doubt, our walk of faith becomes interrupted. That is the moment where we begin to stress, worry, or spiral, questioning whether we are capable of succeeding in God’s plan.

Even when we are spiritually sinking, however, Jesus immediately reaches out His hand to rescue us—just as He did with Peter. It was Peter’s faith that allowed him to walk on water, but the moment he focused on the storm instead of Jesus, was the moment he began to sink. Just as our external conditions and circumstances cause us to take our eyes off of Christ, the diminishment of faith is what results in our own version of sinking. But just as Jesus was there, gracefully rescuing Peter with immediate divine intervention, even when we falter with our faith or fail, we will never be abandoned by our Savior. This story mirrors the same spiritual realities we experience in our lives, where God meets us in our moments of weakness and fear, offering His divine hand, showing us how to rise above the storms.

This verse reveals both human weakness and divine grace—but it compels us to ask ourselves: where have we taken our eyes off of Jesus? Can we keep our spiritual focus on Him instead of the storms around us? What circumstances diminished our faith or what have we given our energy to that pulled us away from Him? Can we learn to honor the ongoing battle in our spiritual journey, realizing that even when we do doubt, Jesus sees us as having ‘little faith’—not ‘no faith’—and His hand is always extended to catch us?

Let’s Pray

Dear God, as of late, I’ve been focusing on life’s storms rather than You. When things feel overwhelming, my first inclination is to doubt myself and You—so today, please give me supernatural strength to resist that voice of doubt and instead, allow me to keep my eyes fixed on You. I trust that even when my faith feels small, Your grace is what deepens my relationship with You. Please help me discover a deeper, more consistent faith, so that I feel Your presence during the storms I face, and trust that through You, I can do the impossible. Just as You immediately reached out to catch Peter when he began to sink, I know You will catch me too when my faith wavers. Amen.
