Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Matthew 6:26
Devotional Message
Nature is our greatest teacher, reflecting the very heart of God. The plants, animals, rivers, mountains, and trees…none of them are in a rush, on a timeline, or worried about the future. They do not compare themselves, they surrender to being shifted during each season, and have the divine ability to weather whatever storm comes their way. They don’t force things, push things, or worry about external needs—and still, our Heavenly Father provides for them daily. If we remember our worth in the eyes of God, compared to all other creation, what could possibly make us believe that God isn’t also providing for us abundantly in the here and now? God’s faithful provision as seen in nature is simply a divine reflection of His tender, fatherly care for us.
The main source of our distress stems from fixating on either the past or the future. We worry about what has happened or obsess over what is to come, questioning God’s perfect timing in our lives, thinking and believing that we are either too far behind His plan or not where He wants us to be. We fixate on material needs, thinking those earthly things will fill the void that only He can satisfy. But the moment we remember that all things are unfolding according to His divine will, and that we are immensely precious to Him compared to all other things, we can observe nature and calm our anxious hearts, knowing that we are being cared for, supported, and guided by His loving hand, even when we cannot see or feel it.
If each day we surrendered and accepted that our current reality is God’s perfect will, how much more peacefully could we live? Let’s observe nature and learn from it—rather than planning wisely but then fixating obsessively or hoarding anxiously, let us stop relying on our own understanding and remember our sacred worth to God, allowing His personal, fatherly care to orchestrate every detail of our lives. Perhaps in that deep trust in divine provision, we not only can observe nature, but return to being part of His creation—living with the same peaceful confidence and spiritual rest that characterizes all of God’s beloved creation.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, I’m humbled to remember my sacred worth in your eyes above all other forces of nature. As of late, however, I’ve been worrying about every aspect of my life—planning obsessively, waiting anxiously, and controlling furiously. So today, I ask for your grace to trust in your perfect will and divine plan, and let that trust fill the worry in my heart with your supernatural peace.
Help me learn from nature about surrendering to You, and thank you for your deep, tender fatherly care that never fails. I commit today to focusing on my value to You rather than dwelling on my past regrets or future fears. Teach me to live with the same peaceful confidence as the birds of the air, knowing that if You care for them, how much more will You provide for me. Amen.
