We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, then do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, then do it cheerfully.
Romans 12:6-8
Devotional Message
God gives every believer spiritual gifts by His grace for His Kingdom’s purposes. The diversity in which these gifts are offered is intentional and necessary in order to fulfill the role in society God has chosen for our lives. While each one varies in nature, the common denominator between all is to use these gifts to serve others rather than elevate ourselves—and the only way to do so is to be faithful and operate from that place of true, deep faith.
Prophesying involves speaking God’s truth with conviction and accuracy, while serving encompasses practical ministry and helping others. Teaching requires faithfully communicating God’s Word and principles, and encouraging means building others up and offering hope. Giving should be done with generosity and a willing heart, leading requires diligence, dedication, and faithful stewardship, and showing mercy should be accompanied by genuine joy and compassion. Yet, it is the attitude behind each gift’s usage that is as important as the gift itself. The intention we operate from is what shifts the world—and so we must intentionally tap into each gift through the lens of love versus fear.
The beauty in this blessing is that unity comes through diversity, where each of us has these gifts because we need each other’s unique contributions to bring more light into this world. The way in which you lead is quite different than how someone else might lead, but it is through your unique brilliance and varied life experiences that can inspire someone else in a completely different way, and the way in which others lead will inspire a completely different set of people. There is a role for each of us, proving how deeply God loves us—for He has given us the ultimate tools to offer a unique contribution to deepen the health of His kingdom, to expand the Church, and to empower the world around us by being divine vessel for His love and light.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, thank you for the spiritual gifts you have graciously given me. Please give me wisdom today to identify, develop and share these gifts, so that I can humbly serve others rather than seeking personal recognition. As I move through the day, allow my intention to be pure and energetically aligned with your will—let me be generous, kind, optimistic, loving and nurturing. I also ask that you give me opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the world around me today—place me in front of people who I can share your message with, guide me to individuals who need help, and take me to environments where I can use my voice in an impactful way. As I use my gifts today, also give me grace to celebrate other people’s gifts without envy or comparison, knowing that we are all contributing to your highest good. Amen.
