Your Daily Devotional 8/27/2025: Working for God’s Approval Alone

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

Colossians 3:23-24

Devotional Message

Treat every task that you do today as an act of service to God. Rather than focusing on the outcome or the approval of others, choose to move through your day as an opportunity to be a vessel for God’s love and light, letting that be the pure intention behind every action you make, every decision you take, and every choice you choose.

Paul reminds us to work “with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” When you shift from pleasing others toward pleasing God, from a desired outcome to following God’s plan, you develop a level of excellence in your daily functioning that resembles deep worship. You are able to find purpose in the seemingly ordinary—complimenting a stranger, cleaning your home, completing a task at work no longer become burdens or unrecognized actions, but rather become areas in which you reflect God’s light. You do your best, not for the recognition from others, but because God deserves your best, and His recognition is all you need.

When you are no longer dependent on human validation, you experience a level of freedom that transforms your daily work ethic. You do things not for the fruits they bear, but to be of service to the world around you. The promise is clear: “you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” You find reward not in the external success your efforts create, but in the security of knowing your true reward comes from God. This level of dignity allows you to work from joy, peace and love, rather than stress and people-pleasing, for “it is the Lord Christ you are serving” through everything you do—making each moment an act of service for the one who created you.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, give me strength today to give my best effort in all of my tasks, especially the ones that I am not looking forward to doing. Help me remember that my true audience is You and not the people around me—family members, friends or my colleagues. I am grateful for the dignity and purpose you give to my work, and I trust that serving others is an expression of serving Christ. As I experience the day ahead, free me from the need for constant human approval, recognition and validation, so that I can seize the day through a pure intention. I trust that the work I do today will have eternal significance, and so help me maintain excellence even when no one is watching. Amen.
