Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Ephesians 5:17
Devotional Message
God has specific desires and plans for our lives and circumstances, a divine blueprint we are expected to seek. Understanding His will for each of us requires intentional effort, spiritual discernment and an active choice to follow the whispers of our souls. Yet we spend most of our time making choices from worldly wisdom versus godly wisdom—we follow what others tell us to do, go where others go, live a life that gains society’s acceptance. However, rather than guessing what our divine purpose is, God invites us to actively pursue His will and live from that sacred place.
When we live without seeking God’s direction, we become the captains of our own ships. We navigate where we think is best, often leading to pain, suffering, discomfort or resentment. When we listen only to what others tell us to do, we begin living our lives not according to what our hearts truly desire but what others expect. This becomes spiritual foolishness—we waste our lives not fulfilling what God designed us to accomplish.
On the contrary, when we align our choices with God’s purposes rather than our preferences or worldly expectations, we open our hearts to a transformative path. One filled with deeper love, reverence, joy, fulfillment and service. We no longer question our direction but become so receptive that He pours clarity into our minds and confidence into our decisions. While the path He leads us on may not make sense initially, it becomes a sacred adventure where only you and God walk together, leading to wonderful views and enlightening experiences.
This teaches us to live intentionally rather than reactively—to seek God in all decisions and wait for His divine guidance. When we make choices from that place, we enter profound rest and peace, knowing that our lives are held by Him and that He’s orchestrating every step to fulfill His perfect will.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, please give me wisdom today to discern between my human desires and your will. I am trying to follow the breadcrumbs you’ve been leaving me, noticing all of the signs, and trying to trust the path I’m on, but I’m struggling to understand what your specific plan is for me. So help me make decisions today that align with your will. Allow me to walk on the path you’ve set forth, and give me clarity and patience when your direction seems unclear or confusing. I also ask you to help me become more patient—knowing that your timing is perfect, and that I must trust it rather than rushing ahead. Even if your will differs from my desires, I humbly and courageously surrender my life to you—knowing that your will is perfect, your plan is divine and your purpose is immense. Thank you for loving me enough to have a specific plan for my life, and help me trust the journey even when I cannot see the destination. Amen.
