I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
Devotional Message
Every believer is in union with Christ. This truth offers a fundamental transformation of our identity, where our old self-centered nature has been crucified and Christ’s life now flows through us by His Spirit. This becomes the center of how we live—no longer trying to earn God’s approval through our efforts, but realizing we are beloved children empowered by His grace.
When we try to live for Christ through willpower alone, we assume we must constantly prove our worth. Yet when we realize that Christ lives in us through the Holy Spirit, our entire self-worth shifts. We discover that we have been chosen and equipped to reflect Christ’s love just as Jesus did, and we approach challenges not through defeat but through the strength He provides—knowing that each trial allows us to depend more fully on His power working within us.
Each day offers ongoing opportunities to grow in this new identity. We are guided to become more like Christ—offering love, compassion, grace, forgiveness and gratitude. When we see ourselves as vessels that Christ uses, separation dissolves. We look at others not through fear or resentment, but through Christ’s eyes of love. By allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us, we see transformation in every aspect of life. We realize our bodies are temples that God inhabits, and from that place of security, we can give freely from the love He has given us.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, help me live from my new identity in Christ rather than my old self. I strive to grow in understanding what it means that Christ lives in me, so offer me wisdom today to recognize when I’m operating from my limited human strength versus relying on Christ’s life within me. I trust that His love and sacrifice are the foundation of my identity, so help me strip away any old beliefs or stories that prevent me from operating from that place. Guide me in transforming my motivations from duty to love and gratitude, and teach me how to be graceful as I live out this truth, even when I don’t feel spiritually mature. As I move through my day, give me opportunities to truly lead with love—so that I can experience the joy of knowing my life has eternal significance through Christ. Amen.
