Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Luke 12:25-26
Devotional Message
Our worries reveal areas where we’re trying to play the role of God instead of trusting Him. It is our desperate human attempt to control what only God can control, leaving us feeling powerless as it often leads us nowhere other than deeper disconnection from ourselves, from Him, and from the present moment. This profound question that Jesus poses challenges us to examine the logic of our worries—if we can’t control something as basic as our lifespan, how can we possibly control the complexities of life? If worry can’t accomplish the small things, it certainly cannot handle the monumental ones.
Jesus is lovingly pointing us toward trust in God’s sovereignty over all circumstances. When we spend our energy on something that accomplishes nothing, we waste precious time and mental energy on unproductive anxiety. Instead, we are graciously invited to redirect worry-energy toward prayer, faith and action. From that place, we can become productive with the time God is blessing us with, focusing on the things He has placed within our control—our mindset, our attitude, our intentions, our response to His calling.
This divine perspective shift immediately brings peace and clarity to decision-making. Rather than obsessing over distant futures, we can make small choices throughout the day that are aligned with His truth working through us, our authenticity, and the dreams He has planted in our hearts. When we release the illusion of control and destructive worrying, we discover profound empowerment—not in ourselves, but in our faithful God who sees all, knows all, and controls all. In surrendering our worries, we find His perfect peace.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, lately I’ve been worrying about my future and feeling anxious throughout the day. But I recognize that worrying doesn’t change my circumstances—it only shifts my state of mind from peace to anxiety. So today, help me redirect my anxious energy toward productive faith and action. Please grant me divine wisdom to discern what I can control and what I cannot, and help me find deeper trust in your sovereignty over the outcomes that only you can influence. I know that true peace flows from releasing the burden of trying to control everything, so give me clarity on what truly matters and what I can actually influence. I trust that you alone know every detail of my life, and I surrender my anxious heart, knowing you are orchestrating everything perfectly according to your divine plan. In your hands, I find my rest. Amen.
