Devotional Message
There is a particular kind of tiredness that comes from waiting for a love that has not yet arrived. It is not loud. It does not always announce itself. It moves into your life slowly, in the quiet hours after another wedding invitation, in the pause between a friend’s engagement post and your own smile, in the long drive home from a dinner where you were the only one who came alone. You are happy for them. You mean it. And still, somewhere underneath, a small ache stirs — a wondering you don’t quite say out loud. When is it my turn. When does the waiting end. When does the love I’ve been praying for finally know how to find me.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
The world will tell you that waiting is wasted time. It will tell you that if love hasn’t arrived by now, something must be wrong with the way you love, the way you look, the way you hope. It will hand you a timeline that was never yours and ask you to measure your worth against it. But God speaks an entirely different language. In his kingdom, waiting is not a punishment. It is not evidence of your undesirability. It is not proof that you have been forgotten. Waiting, in his hands, is the slow and sacred work of renewal — a strengthening that happens beneath the surface, in the places no one else can see.
You are not behind in love. You are being prepared for it.
There is a difference between a love that is delayed and a love that is being aligned, and most of the time, you cannot tell which one you are inside of until much later. What feels like absence is often the long, patient work of God protecting you from a love that would have asked you to shrink. What feels like silence is often the sound of him teaching another heart how to recognize yours. The right love is not late. It is being formed — in you, and in the one who is still becoming ready to meet you.
And still, God’s voice cuts through the noise with a gentler truth — the waiting is not empty. It is not a room you were placed in and forgotten. It is the very place where your strength is being renewed, where your discernment is being deepened, where your heart is being taught the difference between being chosen and being matched. Chosen can be fleeting. Matched endures. Chosen fills a moment. Matched fulfills a purpose. And the God who counts the hairs on your head is not careless with the years of your becoming, or with the heart he has been shaping for a love that will not ask you to abandon yourself in order to keep it.
You are allowed to be tired. You are allowed to grieve the timeline you thought you’d be living by now. You are allowed to bring the honest ache to God — not the polished version, not the version that pretends you are fine, but the one that whispers, I am so tired of waiting. Resentment is not the opposite of faith. Apathy is. And you are still here, still hoping, still asking — which means the tender thing inside of you has not been closed. It has only grown quieter, and God is not afraid of the quiet.
Hear him say it, if you can — “Not yet. Not because I am withholding beauty from you, but because I am aligning what you cannot yet see. This is safe for your soul. This is worth the wait I have asked you to keep.” He is not punishing you with the pause. He is protecting something. He is preparing something. He is teaching you to walk into love as a whole woman, rooted and witnessed, rather than a hollowed-out one hoping to be filled.
So today, let yourself exhale. Let yourself release the timeline that has been quietly exhausting you. Let yourself believe that the love God is preparing for you does not require you to chase it, or perform for it, or become smaller to fit inside of it. It will know how to find you. It will know your name. It will arrive at a pace your soul can actually receive.
You are not forgotten. You are not too late. You are being renewed in a waiting that heaven has not misplaced.
Let’s Pray
God, I am tired of waiting for a love that still hasn’t come, and I am tired of pretending I’m not. Teach me to trust that the pause is not a punishment, and that the love you are preparing for me is worth the strength you are building in me now. Help me to release the timeline I have been measuring myself against, and to receive the quiet, patient work you are doing beneath the surface. Thank you for loving me here, in the middle, before anything is finished. Amen.
